A study of the water quality of Lake Lyster was carried out in 1999 and 2000 by RAPPEL (le regroupement des associations pour la protection de l’environnement des lacs et cours d’eau de l’Estrie et du haut bassin de la rivière St-François) an umbrella group of associations concerned with the protection of the lakes and waterways of the Estrie region and of the St Francis River basin. The study was conducted under the supervision of Professeur Yves T. Prairie of the University of Quebec in Montreal.1.2

A biological inventory of the wetlands of the Coaticook MRC was carried out in 2000. The resulting reports and summaries were conducted and compiled through the collaboration of RAPPEL and the Quebec Wildlife Foundation. 3

The professors and students of the University of Sherbrooke Geography and Remote Sensing Department have been involved in various environmental studies in the region. In December of 2000 they produced the document « A Development Plan for the Meder Marsh » 5 — an excellent survey of fish, amphibians, birds, and mammals. Species and sub-species of trees and other vegetative organisms were also inventoried. This document overflowed with topographic, hydrographic, and geological information concerning this wetland. In February of 2001, students Anne-Marie Caron and Nadia Guérette produced an undergraduate reasearch paper : « Enhancement of Park Harold F. Baldwin’s physical environment for the purpose of education through recreation. » 4
