Friends of the Park

Who are we?

Les Amis du Parc Découverte nature brings together public organizations and private businesses in a group dedicated to the exploration and study of the flora and fauna of the Eastern Townships and to the promotion and protection of the environment. At the same time, les Amis du Parc Découverte nature support the development of activities designed to give a taste of sport fishing and the environment to young people. Working closely with la Société de parc Découverte nature de Baldwin, the town of Coaticook and the Ministère des Ressources naturelles et de la Faune du Québec (MRNF) (Quebec ministry of Wildlife and Natural Resources), les Amis du Parc Découverte nature:

  • sponsor the projects put forth by the park administration
  • carry out research on various topics related to flora, fauna, and ecology in general • help in necessary financial research and in the raising of funds
  • give education and support for the guides and their activities
  • aid in setting up a network of Eastern Townships organizations dedicated to the protection and promotion of the natural milieu
  • participate in the promotion of park and fish hatchery activities • volunteer their time to help with the smooth working of the park.
  • volunteer their time to teach young children how to fish

The day-to-day activities of Les Amis are organized by an executive committee. A general assembly is held each year to decide the direction for the coming year, review the year’s activities, and to elect the executive officers of the association.

In order to promote a better understanding of the park and its milieu, the reports and documents produced or commissioned by Les Amis du Parc Découverte nature and associate groups are available on our web site.

The organization Les Amis du Parc Découverte nature was created in response to the expressed wishes of people in the Coaticook area and the administration of the Town of Coaticook to promote the natural beauty of our region and in so doing create an engine of economic development.

The creation of the association Les Amis du Parc Découverte nature was made possible through the involvement of a group of citizens who have at heart the protection of the environment and an appreciation of the richness of the plant and animal life of our region. Les Amis du Parc Découverte nature has undertaken an awareness campaign to promote the activities of our park. Drawing on the distinctive and unique character of our park, Les Amis continue to raise funds in order to aid in the preservation and expansion of the park collections. At the same time Les Amis help in the organization of special events and work as volunteers, teaching children how to fish.
